Custom fields let you capture and report on information specific to your team’s warranty process. You can keep fields internal or make them available for owners and subcontractors to view and complete in their portals. Fields are managed at the account level and are available across your account’s warranty issues.
Begin by navigating to the account view by clicking the BUILDR logo, then click Settings → Warranty Issue Settings. Scroll to Custom Fields.
Create a custom field
To capture additional information on warranty issues, create a field and choose the type of information it should hold.
1. In Custom Fields, click New Custom Field.
2. Enter a Name.
3. Select a Type.

6. Select Visible in portals if owners and subcontractors should be able to see the field and fill it in on warranty requests.
7. Click Save.
The field appears in your account’s custom-field list.
Note: A field’s type cannot be changed after it is created.
Choose which fields external users can see
To collect information from owners and subcontractors, enable Visible in portals for the relevant fields.
Visible in portals selected: Owners and subcontractors can see the field in their portals and fill it in when submitting warranty requests.
Visible in portals cleared: The field is internal to your company.
Edit or delete custom fields
To update a field’s name, choices, required setting, or portal visibility, edit it from Custom Fields in your account’s Warranty Issue Settings.
Find the field and click its pencil icon.
Make your changes.
Click Save.
To delete a custom field, click the trash can icon beside it.
Use custom fields on warranty issues
Once your custom fields are created, you can enter custom-field information when creating or editing warranty issues. From Warranty Issues → Issues, use Filter to narrow the list by available custom fields.
Use custom fields in warranty reports
Custom fields give you two additional ways to organize and narrow your account-level warranty reports:
Group by a custom field: Organize the report by the field’s values to compare warranty activity across those categories.
Filter by a custom field: Limit the report to issues matching selected custom-field values while keeping your preferred report grouping.
For the full reporting workflow, see Generate Warranty Issues Report.
